Defense E-Mall changes hands

The Defense Logistics Agency will take over the Defense Department's online shopping mall

The Defense Logistics Agency will take over the Defense Department's online shopping mall from a joint office that has been running it for the past several years.

In a Jan. 30 memo, DOD deputy chief information officer Paul Brubaker made DLA the "executive agent" for the DOD E-Mall and tasked the agency with drafting a project plan for the site by the end of March.

DLA assumes responsibility for the Defensewide E-Mall from the Joint Electronic Commerce Program Office, which will spend more time on e-business pro-cesses. The transfer is designed to up the capability of the system, give it more visibility and increase sales of products and services on the E-Mall, which did about $150 million in sales in fiscal 2000.

"Expanded usage of the integrated DOD E-Mall will reduce costs and cycle time in the search for best-value goods and services for the DOD," Brubaker wrote in the memo.
