BTG to develop intell service
Air Force awards development phase of an effort to integrate intelligence broadcasts into one service
The Air Force has tapped BTG Inc. to implement the second round of a major effort to integrate existing intelligence broadcasts into one service, the company announced Monday.
The Air Force Electronic Systems Center, which is managing the acquisition of the Integrated Broadcast Service, awarded BTG a $60 million, seven-year contract for the development phase of the program.
Integrated Broadcast Service is designed to provide military commanders with intelligence about allied and enemy troop movements, aircraft and ships, geographic data, and weapons, among other things.
It is expected to make it easier for commanders to request intelligence and to enable users to establish profiles detailing the precise intelligence data needed for a specific mission. The service will gather the required data from multiple sensors, integrate it and deliver it to users in a common message format over secure worldwide communications networks, according to the company's announcement.
Rob Kelly, the company's IBS program manager, said the service will be "a model of information management for the Department of Defense and the intelligence community."
BTG was one of three companies awarded contracts last year for the first phase of the program — the six-month program definition and reduction phase. The others were Lockheed Martin Corp. and TRW Inc., which also competed for the second phase.
