Features: Interface is Web-enabled but kiosk-specific. Users can pay county taxes, subscribe to publications, register to be a child care provider, apply for county and school jobs, schedule special trash pickups and more.

Number of hits: More than 4 million since installation.

Extra: The county has recently set up partnerships with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and the Inova Health System to expand services and the number of kiosks.

Name: GeorgiaNet Kiosk Project

Features: Kiosks are Web-enabled, and state officials plan to integrate them with the state Web portal, which is scheduledto be unveiled next year. Users can currently view tourism and transportation information.

Number of kiosks: 100 Number of hits: Just fewer than 1 million per month.

Extra: Commercial hotel information is available online, but users must pick up an on-site phone to make reservations.

Name: CityAccess, New York City

Features: Touch-screen kiosks offer more than 100 interactive transactions available on the New York City Web portal. To help users, the city may add interactive customer service.

Number of hits: 2.7 million during the demonstration portion of the pilot project.

Extra: The city is paying vendor Golden Screens Interactive Technologies Inc. for the first year only; afterward, revenue will be generated from advertising placed on the screen and the outer kiosk shell.
