Flyzik moving to Homeland office
Treasury CIO to advise Office of Homeland Security on information technology issues
The Treasury Department's chief information officer, Jim Flyzik, will take a new job starting April 21, advising homeland security chief Tom Ridge on information technology issues.
Flyzik said the assignment will last at least through the summer and that he will be working closely with Steve Cooper, special assistant to the president and senior director for information integration and CIO in the Office of Homeland Security.
Flyzik will be bringing his expertise on government IT to help coordinate issues relating to homeland security on the federal, state and local levels.
Flyzik, now packing up his office, will be moving to 1750 Pennsylvania Ave, close to the White House. Mayi Canales, deputy CIO at Treasury, will become the acting CIO.
No determination has been made on what Flyzik will do once the detail at the Office of Homeland Security is over.
Meanwhile, the White House has been seeking candidates to fill the Treasury CIO position as well as the CIO jobs at the Social Security Administration and the Agriculture Department, according to sources. SSA and USDA have acting CIOs.
Flyzik said his new post is something he has wanted to do for some time.
