Job swap idea has merit

This is in response to a FCW.com poll question March 25-29, 2002, that asked: How do you feel about a proposal that would allow federal information technology managers to swap jobs with their private sector counterparts for up to two years?

The idea has merit and could conceivably modernize and streamline many government IT installations.

However, federal procurement practices would stymie any industrial leader who joined the federal government. And they would frustrate any returning federal IT manager.

The exchange of ideas is a good first step.
