Vendors take different GPEA approaches

Because the nature of paperwork elimination varies so much from one agency to another, vendors say it is difficult for a single set of tools to find universal acceptance.

"There [are] a lot of different things that they're trying to achieve here," said Brian Nutt, chief operating officer of PureEdge Solutions Inc. The Government Paperwork Elimination Act "will mean different things to different agencies depending on what their mandate is." Not every agency will build a Web site with forms for citizens to use, he said. "Agencies that are not as public-facing may focus more on driving costs out by data interchange with other agencies," he said. "The vendor community understands that there's a huge opportunity here, but I can't see anyone taking a broad brush here. The systems that are offered have to be tailored to the specific needs of each agency."
