Army IT office takes over six programs

ATLANTA — The Army's top information technology program office has assumed control of six key Army National Guard, Reserve and Defense Department IT initiatives.

They include the Reserve Component Automation System, the Distributed Training Technology Project, the Standard Procurement System and the Future Combat System's Advanced Collaborative Environment, according to an official who works in the Army's Program Executive Office-Enterprise Information Systems at Fort Monmouth, N.J.

Over the past year, the Army has consolidated many IT programs and offices. The Program Executive office already manages key Army and DOD technology initiatives, including the Defense Communications and Army Switch Systems (DCASS), the Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems (DCATS) and the Information Technology Enterprise Solutions (ITES).

The six IT program pickups are a coup for PEO-EIS, which likely was given control of them because of the success of DCASS and DCATS in Iraq and ITES' successful award in September, said the program office official while attending the 2003 Army Directors of Information Management Conference here in Atlanta.

DCAS provides Reserve commanders mobilization and administrative information; DTTP offers e-learning programs to Guard members in classrooms across the country; SPS give Defense Contract Management Agency directors better access to award data; and FCS ACE immerses Army and industry engineers in a three-dimensional environment while designing FCS platforms.
