Lowell to lead Modern Records Program
He's already been its acting director for more than a year.
Howard Lowell was named the director of the Modern Records Program at the National Archives, U.S. Archivist John Carlin announced today.
Lowell had been acting director of the program for more than a year. As director, he will have responsibility for the Records Management Program nationwide. He'll be in charge of developing government regulations for federal records management and partnerships with federal agencies to deal with complex record management issues.
"In the world of archives, there are few challenges as great as that of managing records and I can think of no one more qualified than Mr. Lowell to take this on. I am confident that his leadership will help us achieve our strategic goals for the agency," Carlin said.
Before joining the National Archives in 2000, Lowell spent more than a decade as Delaware State Archivist and Records Administrator. He held the same position in Oklahoma for eight years.
