Alaska picks XAware criminal data exchange
The Mapping Alaska's Justice InterChanges program brings together the systems in many organizations statewide.
XAware Inc. officials announced that Alaska has selected the company to implement the state's criminal justice data exchange program, an integrated system that will allow public safety and justice agencies to electronically process notices and other communications.
The Mapping Alaska's Justice InterChanges (MAJIC) program brings together the systems in many organizations statewide, including the Department of Public Safety, the Alaska Court System, the Public Defender Agency, and the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center-Northwest. The state's Criminal Justice Information Advisory Board manages the entire project.
XAware completed the proof of concept test, using its Extensible Markup Language-based XA-iServer, in December 2003. That test automated one set of paper-based information exchanges between the Alaska Courts case management system and the public defender's office, and there are already 30 other exchanges documented that could be automated using the system.
Both the test and the project built on the Justice Information Exchange Modeling tool developed by the National Consortium of Justice Information and Statistics. The tool is also in use in several other states to standardize information exchanges.
