DHS plans for info sharing
Homeland Security officials are developing a course to educate local officials on information sharing practices and mechanisms.
The Homeland Security Department's information analysis division's plan to improve intelligence sharing with state and local agencies includes training and new systems, the division's head testified before a House subcommittee today.
Sharing of information, intelligence and analysis among the federal, state and local levels of government varies, often depending on resources, but also depending on if the locals see a reason to share, said retired Gen. Patrick Hughes, assistant secretary for information analysis within DHS' Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection Directorate.
"My goal is to make that interaction autonomous and continuous," Hughes said before the House Select Committee on Homeland Security's Intelligence and Terrorism Subcommittee.
