Lockheed wins $19M deal

The Air Force awarded earlier this week a $19 million contract to Lockheed Martin Corp. for more information technology services on the Theater Battle Management Core Systems program.

Lockheed's Mission Systems business division in Colorado Springs, Colo., will finish developing, integrating and testing the next version of the program. The software lets Air Force commanders plan bomber, cargo, fighter, refueling and surveillance aircraft missions, according to a May 19 Defense Department contracts statement.

Lats month, the Air Force started testing the program's Spiral 1.1.3. Lockheed will complete the software update this month, according to DOD's statement.

Air Force Air and Space Operation Centers used 46 computer systems to plan aircraft missions in and en route to Iraq, and the systems program represented the key application. The software let Air Force officials execute 47,000 air missions flown during the war.
