Zeppieri named TSA CIO
Sources say TSA picked David Zeppieri as its next chief information officer.
Transportation Security Administration officials have named David Zeppieri as their chief information officer, according to sources.
According to a government official and two industry officials who often work with TSA, Homeland Security Department officials recently chose Zeppieri to step in as CIO. He is currently CIO of the Information Resources Management Division's Office of Justice Programs at the Justice Department.
Representatives for TSA and DHS would not confirm Zeppieri's appointment. He succeeds Pat Schambach, who left the TSA job May 31.
Zeppieri joined the Senior Executive Service with the Office of Justice Programs in March 2002. He received the Defense Logistics Agency's Meritorious Civilian Service Award for modernizing the logistics information technology process.
As CIO at the Office of Justice Programs, Zeppieri helped modernize the office's grant management process, Internet-based communications and service-delivery environment. His current job includes oversight of the integrated office's IT business planning process, development of policy, evaluation of existing efforts and service-delivery systems for nine program offices and six support offices.
He holds a master's of business administration from the University of Maryland in systems management and is pursuing a doctorate in information technology at George Mason University.
