Former HHS info systems chief dies

Neil Stillman, the former head of information systems and communications at the Department of Health and Human Services, died on Jan. 8. No cause of death was released.

Stillman, who held a Ph.D in Computer Science from Syracuse University, was well-known in the federal information technology community. He had served as president of the Federal Government Information Processing Councils and also worked at a number of government agencies, including Defense and Treasury.

He is survived by his wife, Rona, former chief scientist for computers and telecommunications at the General Accountability Office, and brother, Don Stillman, among other relatives. Donations may be made in his memory to the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
