Army readying PC buy

Army officials plan to release a draft solicitation for the new Army Desktop and Mobile Computing-2 program this week.
The 10-year, $5 billion initiative covers desktop and notebook PCs, rugged notebook PCs, handheld devices, printers, projectors, displays, digital cameras, videoconferencing equipment and high-definition televisions.
Government and military agencies can use the contract to buy information technology products, according to an Army announcement last month on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site.
The service plans to award multiple indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts. The deals will include a three-year base period with three two-year options and one one-year option.
Winning vendors must provide at least a three-year warranty here and abroad on desktop and notebook PCs. Other products must come with the standard commercial warranty.
The Army plans to release the draft request for proposals Aug. 5, with questions and comments from vendors due by Aug 15. The service plans to issue the final RFP Sept. 2, with vendor proposals due by Oct. 3.
