GSA issues final reorg order
GSA has formally signed the order to create the Federal Acquisition Service, which will replace the Federal Supply Service and Federal Technology Service.
Stephen Perry, administrator of the General Services Administration, has formally signed the order to create the Federal Acquisition Service, which will replace the Federal Supply Service and Federal Technology Service.
The order, part of the agency's ongoing reorganization, adheres to the agency's previously announced plans with no surprises.
Among other changes, it:
* Requires that services currently provided by FSS and FTS be moved into FAS.
* Creates six zones that will comprise FAS' operations nationwide. The original 11 regions will remain in place for GSA's Public Buildings Service.
The order is dated Sept. 9.
Larry Allen, executive director of the Coalition for Government Procurement, said the order simply makes official the changes that the agency was planning.
