Navy picks IT support vendors

CSC and CACI were chosen in separate actions to support IT for some Navy programs.

In separate contracts, the Navy has chosen CACI International and Computer Sciences Corp. to provide information technology support services.

CACI will support the Naval Supply Systems Command’s Automatic Identification (AIT) Program Office, under a $107 million contract announced yesterday.

The integrator will provide program management, engineering and technical services under the contract, which spans up to five years. The company said the award expands the size and scope of its AIT Program Office work, which began under a contract awarded in late 1996. The office develops policies and standards regarding technologies such as bar codes, smart cards and radio frequency identification.

CSC’s contract, worth up to $100 million, is with the Naval Education and Training Command. The company will provide data center operations, systems integration, and information assurance services for the command’s Sea Warrior human resources initiative. CSC also will manage the Navy’s Integrated Learning Environment and call center. The Integrated Learning Environment offers online training and is used by more than 480,000 sailors, according to the Navy.

CSC has previously worked with the Navy’s training command. The integrator’s new contract, also announced yesterday, builds on a 2001 contract in which the company provides network, Web and operations support services.

CSC will employ 330 people on the Navy contract. The company’s team members include TEKsystems, Kforce and two 8(a) companies: Global Business Solutions and DOMA Technologies.

Paul Cofoni, former president of CSC's federal sector, joined CACI last month to take over as president of that firm's federal division.
