NGA wants to use more IT to improve data sharing among the military, the government and allies by converging disparate systems and digitally processing and distributing geospatial intelligence. The agency states its goals in “National System for Geospatial-Intelligence Statement for Strategic Intent.” It emphasizes:

  • Adopting fresh, analytic approaches.

  • Collaborating with peers and partners.

  • Improving information sharing.

  • Incorporating new technologies quickly.
  • “Technology is a key player in the new vision,” said Tom Ferguson, director of the Office of Geospatial Intelligence at NGA and a senior agency official, during a Jan. 19 interview. The agency processes and analyzes imagery from spy satellites, military aircraft and air and ground sensors, and makes maps for the military and the government.

Ferguson said NGA is looking for IT acquisition and management ideas from industry on converging systems and building ubiquitous environments. He said vendors should look for requests for information on GeoScout, the agency’s contract vehicle.
