DHS assistant secretary for strategic plans resigns
Randy Beardsworth joined DHS almost four years ago as part of the transition team that created the department.
Randy Beardsworth, assistant secretary for strategic plans at the Homeland Security Department, has resigned, according to a statement from Secretary Michael Chertoff.
Beardsworth's last day will be Friday, Sept. 29.
"Randy played an integral part in standing up this department and melding 22 agencies into a cohesive unit," Chertoff said.
Beardsworth joined DHS in December 2002 as part of the Transition Office, after a career with the Coast Guard.
"His experience and expertise were vital to the design and development of the new" department, Chertoff said.
Beardsworth also filled the critical role of acting under secretary for the former Border and Transportation Security Directorate during its final days as a component within the department.
"His vision and keen understanding of the department’s long-term needs are resources on which I have heavily relied," Chertoff said. "I appreciate all Randy has given to this department and thank him personally for his outstanding service to our country."
