Tenet joins QinetiQ's advisory board
The former CIA chief has joined QinetiQ Group, a British international defense and security technology company, as an independent nonexecutive director.
Former CIA Director George Tenet has joined QinetiQ Group, a British international defense and security technology company, as an independent nonexecutive director. In the position, he will serve as a member of the company’s advisory group.
Tenet was one of the longest-serving directors of the CIA, holding office from 1997 to 2004. He is a professor at Georgetown University, a board director of Guidance Software and L-1 Identity Solutions, and a member of Analysis Corp.’s advisory board.
QinetiQ Chairman Sir John Chisholm said in an announcement today: “I am extremely pleased to welcome George Tenet to QinetiQ. His extraordinary track record and experience in the fields of intelligence and security are particularly relevant as we continue to focus on the U.S. defense and security market.”
“We now have a full complement of nonexecutive directors, all of whom bring outstanding expertise to the company,” Chisolm added.
“I am looking forward with great enthusiasm to working with the QinetiQ team,” Tenet said. “I am especially interested in the capacity of the company’s technologies to meet a number of the challenges faced by our nations’ military and intelligence personnel.”
QinetiQ evolved from one of the first top-flight national defense laboratories to make the transition to the private sector. The company offers technology services and solutions in Europe and North America.
Its work has included integrating existing weapons systems with state-of-the-art sensors and software for the British Ministry of Defence, building advanced robotic systems for the Defense Department, providing port security products for the Homeland Security Department, and designing advanced security systems for many of the London financial district’s computer systems.
QinetiQ Inc. represents QinetiQ Group's interests in the U.S. marketplace from offices in Arlington, Va.
In February, Apogen Technologies acquired QinetiQ Trusted Information Management (QTIM), which offers security assessment and assurance services.
The acquisition took place within the umbrella of QinetiQ. Apogen merged with QinetiQ in 2005 to become a subsidiary of QinetiQ North America. QTIM has operated as a business unit of QinetiQ North America since 2002.
