TSA awards Raytheon airport security contract
The company will manage Phase 1 of TSA's Security Technology Integrated Program by developing, testing and integrating commercial and custom software used to exchange data with TSA's Threat Image Projection Ready X-ray systems.
The Homeland Security Department's Transportation Security Administration has awarded a contract to Raytheon Technical Services Co. (RTSC), a subsidiary of Raytheon, to develop an aviation security enterprise management system.
According to a statement from Raytheon, the contract is worth $3.7 million.
Under the terms of the deal, RTSC will manage Phase 1 of TSA's Security Technology Integrated Program (STIP) by developing, testing and integrating commercial and custom software that will exchange data with TSA's Threat Image Projection (TIP) Ready X-ray (TRX) systems.
The enterprise management solution will transmit data and images to about 1,200 TRX systems at 80 airports nationwide. RTSC will also train workers to manage the systems, according to the statement.
"Phase 1 is critical to the future of commercial airport security,” said Dave Dacquino, RTSC vice president and general manager, in the statement. “The STIP initiative will ultimately provide the TSA with an enterprise management system connecting thousands of pieces of aviation security equipment at hundreds of commercial airports.”
