Letter: Using GSA is not a waste of money
The Army is building up its acquisition workforce, but the Defense Department should get out of the acquisition business and consolidate its resources under GSA.
Regarding “Army: Bolstering acquisition workforce could take 10 years,” does every agency need its own contracting force? I suppose they need their own systems and contracts, too. How unbelievably bureaucratic! Well, at least the Army is looking at reality. Forget how much time it would take. How much will that cost? Is it even doable? Why did the Army -- and other services and the Homeland Security Department -- inaugurate new indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts if it can't support them and they duplicate what the General Services Administration already does? Should it be a goal to build your own fiefdom? And using GSA is a waste of money? Hmmmmn. I don't think so. The feds earn more disrespect every day. I think it's time to look at getting the Defense Department out of the routine acquisition business and consolidate resources under GSA. Why not?
