Interior advisory group to aid geospatial initiatives
The group will report to the head of the Federal Geographic Data Committee, which is working to improve data sharing across the public and private sectors.
The Interior Department has established a panel to assist an interagency group that is coordinating government efforts to collect, manage and share geospatial data.Interior's National Geospatial Advisory Committee will consist of 25 members appointed for two-year terms by the department’s secretary. They will meet three to four times a year.Committee members will be selected to “generally achieve a balanced representation of the viewpoints of the various stakeholders involved in national geospatial activities,” according to a notice in the Federal Register.The group will report to the leader of the Federal Geographic Data Committee, a role held by Interior Deputy Secretary Lynn Scarlett.That committee is spearheading a project known as the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, which is intended to link geospatial programs across all levels of government, private industry and the academic community. It will also create a standard format for all data to make it easier for participants to share information.
