Letter: Not all Web traffic is a threat

A reader points out that many service members use Web-based e-mail to stay in touch with loved ones.

Regarding “DOD considers prohibiting personal use of networks”: As much as I understand the Defense Department’s need for security, I hope they keep in mind that Web-based mail can be an important means of communication between family members and deployed or otherwise absent service members.

I've worked on military bases, and I know what kind of materials wind up on for-official-use-only machines. However, someone needs to remind DOD officials that not all Web traffic is a threat.
