Bush nominates new SBA IG

President Bush has nominated Carol Dillon Kissal to be inspector general at the Small Business Administration, White House officials announced today.Late last year, Bush nominated SBA’s current IG, Eric Thorson, to be the Treasury Department’s IG.Kissal is a deputy director at the District of Columbia’s Department of Transportation. She has also worked as corporate treasurer at Amtrak and a program financial analyst at IBM.SBA Administrator Steven Preston said Kissal has a solid senior-level finance and management background.“She comes highly recommended, and her areas of expertise are very relevant to the opportunities and challenges the SBA faces,” he said in a statement.The IG’s office conducts independent reviews, audits and investigations of all SBA programs to prevent fraud and abuse. It also recommends ways for SBA to improve programs and operations.Kissal received a bachelor’s degree in business management from Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y., and a master’s degree in business administration from Pace University in White Plains, N.Y.Her confirmation is subject to a hearing before the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee and a vote by the full Senate.
