Marin joins Podesta Group

David Marin, Rep. Tom Davis' right-hand man, is joining the company as a principal.

David Marin, minority staff director of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, will join the Podesta Group as a principal, Tony Podesta, chairman of the company, announced Feb. 7. Marin starts Feb. 19. 

Marin was previously majority staff director of the committee and lead staffer for the Select Committee to Investigate the Preparation for and Response to Hurricane Katrina. He is the chief aide, spokesman and speechwriter for Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.).


Marin has overseen some of the highest-profile congressional investigations in recent years, including steroid use in professional sports, the performance of contractors to the Defense and Homeland Security departments, and the treatment of wounded veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He also helped pass the E-Government Act of 2002, the Services Acquisition Reform Act, the General Services Administration Modernization Act and the Federal Information Security Management Act. 


Marin began his federal government career in 1999 as press secretary to Davis and the House District of Columbia Subcommittee. He later was legislative director in Davis’ personal office before re-joining the Government Reform Committee staff when Davis became chairman of it in 2003.


Before joining the federal government, Marin was an award-winning journalist with the Montgomery (Md.) Journal and the Connection Newspapers in Northern Virginia.
