GSA names technology executive

The General Services Administration has chosen a new head of the agency’s Office of Technology Strategy. Peter Alterman, a career federal technology expert, will lead the technology office as part of the agency’s Office of Governmentwide Policy, agency officials announced Aug. 20. In his new position, Alterman will help to develop the agency’s policy for adopting common business approaches, architectures and technologies. Alterman will also work with the Office of Management and Budget to develop policies for the government’s use of information technology. Alterman served as the assistant chief information officer for electronic authentication at the National Institutes of Health. He also chaired the U.S. Federal Public Key Infrastructure Policy Authority.Alterman is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook and holds a master’s degree from Adelphi University. He received a doctorate from the University of Denver in 1974, GSA said.
