Letter: DHS should follow standard rules
A reader writes about purpose of shared rules and why the Homeland Security Department should respect them.
Regarding: "IG: DHS has problems with top secret data": It seems to me that DHS should already be adhering to the same NIST 800 series, Public law, DIACAP, etc., requirements that the U.S. Federal and DOD follow today. Not yet one more tax-eating program established specifically for them: "issue formal guidance for the department’s intelligence activities and establish an information systems’ security education, training, and awareness program for intelligence personnel."
Wasn't DIACAP created so that there is a standard for all agencies to follow for this exact reason? As well as share information with each other securely. As long as we allow the them-and-us mentality, everyone will have their own systems that talk to no one.
