Letter: Campaigns differ on CIOs
A reader writes that the two presidential campaigns differ on whether a CIO position should be politically appointed.
Regarding "Campaign surrogates face off at leadership conference"
I attended this conference and would agree that this was quite the entertaining and informative exhange between the representatives from each campaign.
I noticed, however, that you did not mention the two campaigns comments on their opinions on politically appointed chief information officers. The McCain campaign quickly answered by saying CIOs should not be politically appointed. The Obama campaign said most should not be politically appointed, but acknowleged that some might need to be, depending on the changes needed in some specific agencies.
I thought this was a very interesting response from both sides and would have liked to have seen it commented on in this article.
