Letter: DHS trying to reinvent the wheel

A reader writes that the Department of Homeland Security would rather enroll its employees in training than have longtime employees pass on their years of experience.

Regarding "DHS seeks training for acquisition workforce"

The Department of Homeland Security and most other agencies are trying to reinvent the wheel instead of luring us old timers to stay long enough to pass on our many years of experience. Of course, some of us with that experience are considered to be unworthy of retention, much less promotion, because we don't have a degree in our desk drawers. I meant to say hanging on the wall.

In five years, I'll take my 28 years of experience and never look back. I'm certainly not bitter — crazy maybe. The aquisition field is challenging, hence the crazy part, but rewarding. I wish all involved the best of luck.
