Letter: Fun with math

A reader does some math for the $1.2 billion TSA awarded Lockheed Martin for a human resources support contract.

Regarding "TSA scolded by Obama for $1.2B Lockheed award"

Lets see, $1.2 billion for 40,000 people. That is $3,000 per person for five years, or $600 per person a year. If a personnel person makes an average of $65,000 a year, then there is a single personnel manager for every 100 people at the Transportation Security Administration, or 400 overall.

I would bet that there are some small business concerns using computers instead of people that could do that job with 100 people.

If it costs one personnel manager per 100 people at Lockheed Martin, it is no wonder our defense spending is out of control. They have 140,000 people, so they must have 14,000 personnel managers!
