DHS consolidates recruiting systems

The department will use an e-Recruitment program to consolidate more 50 separate systems used to recruit and hire employees.

The Homeland Security Department is starting an automated recruitment system to consolidate more 50 separate systems that handle recruiting and hiring employees, according to a notice in the Federal Register. The department said the e-Recruitment solution will help DHS comply with the 45-day hiring model under the President’s Management Agenda. “Technology-enabled recruitment can deliver both time savings and improved results,” stated the notice, dated Nov. 25. “The overall vision for the e-Recruitment initiative is to implement a state-of-the-art system that automates hiring/recruitment processes across DHS and seamlessly integrates with other related DHS services.” DHS said it is collecting information on workforce turnover rates and expected budget allocations to help in planning. Other goals are automating employee referrals, resume management, candidate tracking, rating and ranking candidates, improving applicant workflow, and checking references. DHS is taking comments until Jan. 26, 2009.
