Federal 100: Roger W. Baker

Roger W. Baker
Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology
Veterans Affairs Department

Baker joined VA in May 2009 after serving in leadership roles at General Dynamics, CACI and Visa International and a three-year stint as chief information officer at the Commerce Department. He immediately started shaking things up at VA by suspending 45 troubled information technology projects and instituting a new program management approach.

He has since restarted most of the IT projects on firmer footing and is carrying out President Barack Obama’s agenda for creating an integrated health record between VA and the Defense Department.

“In less than a year on the job, Roger Baker has begun to transform IT management practices so that VA continues to improve the delivery of services and benefits to our nation’s veterans,” said Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.
