Spending bill withdrawn

An omnibus spending bill that ran nearly 2,000 pages is dead, the Washington Post is reporting.
According to the Post, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev), agreed late Thursday to abandon the massive bill, which had garnered widespread opposition from Republicans. Instead, Reid has agreed to work with Sen.Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to pass a short-term compromise to avoid a government shutdown.
The omnibus bill would have laid out the funding for every cabinet agency. It also included funding for earmarked projects and provided $158 billion for the military in Afghanistan. It also included the Senate version of a bill forcing a pay freeze for federal employees, and new insourcing rules.
