Federal 100: Bev Godwin

Bev Godwin
Director, Center for New Media and Citizen Engagement
General Services Administration

In the fast-moving world of new media, Bev Godwin is an adroit early adopter who has been at the forefront of helping GSA and other agencies stay in step with social networking and collaboration tools.

She has facilitated the use of new digital tools, including Apps.gov NOW and IdeaScale, and worked out terms of service so agencies can use Facebook, YouTube and other social media sites.

Last year, Godwin led the way in creating GSA’s Challenge.gov website, which makes it easy for agencies to hold contests to spur innovative solutions to government problems. She negotiated a no-cost contract and delivered the platform in 60 days. The website has now hosted more than 50 challenges with participants from 170 countries.
