Federal 100: Mary Davie

Mary Davie
Assistant Commissioner
General Services Administration

In recent years, people have been talking more and more about the importance of transparency in acquisition. They also have been marveling at the advances in social media. Mary Davie saw the connection and put the two together to create the BetterBuy Project.

Recruiting the American Council for Technology/Industry Advisory Council and the National Academy of Public Administration as partners, Davie led an effort to create the social media-based acquisition tool. It allowed for public input on requests for proposals, promoting collaboration and participation from various sectors and experts.

While in charge of assisted acquisition services in GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, Davie proved to a risk-averse acquisition community that social media and contracting work well together.
