FAA shutdown to end
Lawmakers have reportedly reached a deal to end the partial shutdown that put 4,000 employees and 70,000 construction contractors out of work.
Furloughed Federal Aviation Administration employees may be able to return to work soon. Lawmakers have reportedly reached a deal to fund the agency and end the partial shutdown that has lasted almost two weeks.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced the deal on Aug. 4, according to published accounts. "This agreement does not resolve the important differences that still remain," Reid said in a written statement reported on Politico.com. "But I believe we should keep Americans working while Congress settles its differences, and this agreement will do exactly that."
About 4,000 FAA employees were furloughed when funding expired July 23. The partial shutdown also put about 70,000 workers in construction jobs out of work, according to the Washington Post.
