Defense document site gets upgrade
An overhauled Web site will let Defense Department employees track documents throughout the printing and duplicating process.
DAPS Online replaces DocAccess Online as the new Web site of the Defense Logistics Agency's Document Automation and Production Service (DAPS).
Customers can track orders and receive e-mail messages with confirmations, cost estimates and bills. As with previous versions, the site lets customers submit files electronically to their local DAPS facility to be printed, copied, converted to a different digital format or stored on a compact disc. The finished product can be picked up or delivered at the customer's convenience.
The new online system also incorporates the top request from users: directly getting account information from the Defense Working Capital Fund Accounting System to streamline billing. The document service accepts payment through lines of accounting, government credit cards and interdepartmental purchase requests.
In fiscal 2004, users will be able to order PDFs, and give customers e-mail previews of documents.
Initial testing for the site took place in a Jacksonville, Fla., office and expanded to the rest of the state, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as of July 22. DAPS officials anticipate that worldwide access to DAPS Online will be available by Sept. 30.
